Midnight Painter

It's late again, past midnight while I write this- maybe I am a midnight painter/blogger?
Today's painting is a studio piece after I loved yesterday's mood at the wharf and didn't get a chance to head down today, so a studio session it was... It's one of (if I'm not mistaken) only three actively used fishing boats left in St. Andrews: the 'All Done', who I have painted many, many times over the years. The golden years of the fisheries certainly are over and the licenses are passed down from generation to generation, as it has been with the All Done. She looks weathered, tired, telling many stories of her life at sea. I love painting the All Done and wish her many more years! Thanks for stopping by!

Extra deep gallery wrap

Es ist wieder mal spät- nach Mitternacht- waehrend ich diesen Blogeintrag schreibe- vielleicht bin ich sowas wie ein Mitternachtmaler/blogger? Das heutige Bild habe ich im Studio gemalt, nachdem ich die gestrige Stimmung am Meer so beindruckend fand aber heute leider keine Zeit hatte runterzugehen zum malen am Meer... Das Bild ist von einem der drei letzten, verbliebenen, aktiven Fischereiboote in St. Andrews, der 'All Done' (aka: 'Alles Vollbracht'). Ich habe sie schon viele, viele male gemalt in den vergangenen Jahren. Die Bluetezeit der Fischerei ist auf jedenfall vorbei und die Lizenzen werden von Generation zu Generation weitergegeben, so auch mit der 'All Done'. Muede schaut sie aus, verwettert, erzaehlt von ihrem harten Leben auf See. Ich liebe es, die 'All Done' zu malen und wuensch ihr noch viele Jahre!      Danke fuer's vorbeischau'n! Day #10: Sunny Afternoon Boat

Today's painting I took off to the St. Andrews wharf again. It's home territory for me and the kids love collecting treasures- so, it's a win/win.
The sun was glistening on the water surface and bathing the surroundings in radiant light.
I wanted to dig right in and opted for the palette knife. The brush was only used to tint the canvas yellow, all other paint was applied with the knife. I'm tired now, the wind and sun combo wears me out- in a good way;-)  Thanks for stopping by! Blessings,                              Simone

Das heutige Bild ist vom St. Andrews' Wharf aus. Es ist sowas wie meine zweite Heimat. Die Kinder lieben dort Schaetze am Strand zu suchen.
Die Sonne war heute so strahlend weiss und verwandelte die Wasseroberflaeche in ein Diamantenmeer. Ich wollte dann gleich rangehen und waehlte auch gleich das Malmesser aus. 
Den Pinsel hab ich nur hergenommen fuer die Grundierung der Leinwand in gelb, alle andere Farbe wurde mit dem Palettmesser aufgetragen. Jetzt bin ich müde, Sonne und Wind Kombination zieht mir immer die Fuesse weg- auf  'ne gute Art;-)

A short trip to Grand Manan Island

a few days ago, I packed up the kidlets and my dad and we headed to Grand Manan Island.
Grand Manan is in the Bay of Fundy, about 1.5 hours on the ferry from Black's Harbour; mostly fishing and some tourism provide income, it is not 'discovered', so many quiet spots still, many working wharfs, lots of untouched scenery.
The weather was great, and we were lucky that Seaside Haven Cottages just happened to have a couple nights vacancy. So we headed out, leaving Markus home 'minding the Inn', I wished he could have come along... but we met two couples that had stayed at Europa Inn a few days before!

vor ein paar Tagen, packte ich meine Kids und meinen Papa ins Auto und wir besuchten die Insel Grand Manan. Grand Manan liegt in der Fundy Bucht, ca 1.5 Stunden mit der Fähre von Black's Harbor. Die Infrastruktur ist Fischfang und Tourismus, jedoch würde ich die Insel noch als Geheimtip bezeichnen, viele ruhige Plätzchen, viele private Anlegestellen der Fischer; etwas traurig schauen einige Häuser aus, da viele Junge Arbeiter 'gen Westen ziehen, da der Fischfang nicht mehr genug Einkommen bringt (die Meere sind leer)...
Das Wetter war toll, und wir hatten Glück dass die Seaside Haven Cottages gerade 2 Nächte frei hatten! So brachen wir auf und liessen Markus zuhaus' beim Geschäft (Hochsaison im Europa Inn), schade dass er nicht dabei war... doch zur Überraschung trafen wir 2 Pärchen, die erst ein paar Tage zuvor im Europa übernachtet und gegessen hatten! Dies sind die Bilder die ich auf Grand Manan gemalt habe...
