Two Apples, More Vitamins

Two Apples, More Vitamins

oil pastels, 5x7in approx. matted to 8x10in

more info and purchase, click here

Day two this year and I've painted a second apple, wohoo! The little pleasures. So I call this sketch Two Apples, More Vitamins. I like this medium, always come back to it as a ways to see things new. It is straightforward to judge the colour stick to the actual colour of the object. I then can either put it down or substitute by finding a different colour the same value. This creates little colourful flicks here and there that make the painting more interesting, more colourful. Well, a colour junkie talking here, haha.

Hope to find time again tomorrow for another little sketch. On Thursday another snow storm is expected, so I might be stuck inside still with the kids bouncing off the walls. At least the temperatures are expected to be higher and freezing water pipes are less likely.

'Bernice'- 1977 Trillium

'Bernice'- 1977 Trillium
orig. watercolour 5x7in
sold

Here we walk on with the mini-series of fibreglass trailers. Today I'd like to introduce a 1977 Trillium lovingly called 'Bernice'.
It seems many fibreglass trailers are white or off-white in colour, with splashes of colours to accent.
Looking forward to tomorrow's painting- what will it be?                                  Simone

Bin schon gespannt was ich morgen malen werde;-)                                           Simone

Popeye Candy Sticks
Oil Pastel on Paper
7x5.5in (left) and 4.5x5in (right)

Here we have it: The last of the Halloween Candy at the Ritter's house. And due to my producing a 'scraper' sketch yesterday, I sketched twice today;-) Who doesn't love Popeye? Hope they bring you a smile... Happy and blessed Sunday!
                                                                                                                 Simone

Juicy Orange

Juicy Orange
Oil pastel on synthetic paper
5.5x6.5 inches

Today's Painting is of this juicy orange, yum! Good thing that those paintings can be sketched AND eaten!
To celebrate 100 likes on my 'Simone Ritter Art' Facebook page: as promised: the lucky winner of yesterday's watercolour painting is: C. Graham! Congratulations!
Thank you for all that commented. Let's do that again some time!

Herzlichen Glueckwunsch!

Finish of the Bottle Trio

San Pellegrino
Oil Pastel on synthetic paper
5x10in approx

Today I finally added the missing last bottle in this series. San Pellegrino is mostly known for bottled water, but they also make this yummy orange drink. I like the colour and texture of the bottle in contrast with the other bottles. Have a nice Sunday- I hope it can be your day of rest!    Simone

Finished Series
'small bottles'
available at
Europa Open House December 7, 9-3

Simone

Sorry for not posting the last few days, life has been very busy.

Dinghies by the Wharf

As I have been 'limping' in posting, I drew 3 sketches today to make up for it, using my artists' oil pastels.
I just love the colour, shape and reflection on peppers, I always come back to painting them;-)

My Favorite Past-time

My Buddy, the Ironing Set
12x16in

There are few things I dread, one is my today's sketch. Somehow I have never adopted the Canadian way of 'dry and fold' the laundry, but struggle along with the German method of ironing every shirt and pant in sight... So, today after tackling a couple of baskets I opted of sketching the ironing board rather than keep slaving away at the laundry pile! Happy Weekend to you all- and maybe I'll tackle the finish the laundry tomorrow!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Simone

Simone

The Last of the Corn

The Last of the Corn
12x16

The stores are clearing out the fall and Thanksgiving things to make room for Christmas merchandise, so I picked up a bunch of this ornamental corn, which I tried to sketch here.
Well, this was really a challenge as I struggled to simplify the shapes to not draw each kernel.
Too much fussin' for my temperament, but a good exercise in patience and 'sticking it out'.
Thank you, Lord, for this lesson! Hopefully tomorrow will be simpler, ha ha!         Simone

Remembrance Day- a Quiet Day

Remembrance Day Sketches
NFS

Today was Remembrance Day, a quiet day for us. Coming from a country that has seen much suffering and war, it is an emotional day. I am thankful for all the allied soldiers that rescued my people from the very worst of dictatorship. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
However, I also remember the stories how my grandfather had to die at age 27 of tuberculosis in 1952 which he contracted at a french POW camp. They didn't feed the german soldiers, so they ate any bug and worm that was in the earth; when exactly half of the soldiers had died of starvation or disease, they released the survivors. My father was just 5 years old when his dad died.
Late Opa Erich and my Late Oma Agathe with Papa Herbert and Uncle Rudi

My Uncle Bruno (Opa Erich's brother), was in the US as POW picking peanuts. He would have loved to stay and immigrate as his home Ostpreussen (East Prussia- next to Russia) was now part of Poland and he didn't have a place to go home to. He was treated well in the US.
The youngest brother, Ewald was too young and wasn't drawn, he took care of his mom; both had to survive two years roaming the Polish woods after being forced to leave their home. It was gruesome, he was being shot at after stealing a sausage from a Russian military camp and was lucky to escape.
My mom's parents also fled, Opa from Sudetenland and Oma from White Russia/Ukraine during the Great Purge under Stalin. Markus father fled from Schlesien. Here's a map of it all-crazy to think how many people just had to pick-up and leave!
Today I pray for peace, and for knowledge that people dig deeper than what the main stream media puts in front of them to see beyond, because the greatest dictator of the 20th century leashed the media to brainwash a whole people to follow blind his twisted ideologies.
Sorry, a longer post, just a bit heavy hearted today....                                                               Simone

Opa Erich in hospital 5 weeks before his death

Die Nordamerikaner gedenken und feiern ihre Soldaten, die die Rechte und Freiheit der Nationen verteidigen;
Simone

Cutting a Few Inches

Cutting a Few Inches
Pencil on Paper 12x18in

What to sketch today? Well, after buying the first Marzipanstollen (a german Advent delight) and nosing over possible kids craft ideas, I opted for some kitchen basics. Something to smile. See you tomorrow again!                                                                               Simone

Was heute zeichnen? Simone

Pepsi Charcoal Sketch

Pepsi Bottle Sketch
14x7in approx.

Yesterday I bought a box of 4 Pepsi Bottles (the small glass ones) to be painted.
Here now a sketch to get started...

Coca-Cola sketch

Coca-Cola Bottle
charcoal sketch, 16x7in (ca. 40x18cm)

Today now a 'true' sketch, Coca-Cola bottle done in charcoal.
Full day house-wife-central with cleaning, shampooing carpet, mopping... you get the idea... and a kiddie bowling party this evening. Now I'm ready for some R&R with my sweetie;-) Happy Weekend all, my blessings to you!                                                                                Simone

Vintage 7up Bottle

7up Bottle
Oil pastel on semi transparent pastel paper
8.5x 5in approx.

When we renovated the back part of Europa Inn Building, we found all sorts of vintage souvenirs.
From Entrance Stubbs for AndreaLeo Hall (as it was called back in the 20-70's) to Newspapers to Bottles in the walls. Today I've painted this vintage 7up bottle that was found inside a wall on the 2rd floor, above the ceiling of the catholic church part. Wohoo! Unfortunately the top was broken off, so I searched online for a photo how the neck used to look. See you tomorrow again!                                                                  Simone

Yesterday's Coca-Cola and today's 7up

Simone

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola Classic
Oil Pastel on Pastel Paper
11x5in approx.

Late night tonight, Thursday is always packed to the brim, but I've made it!
Here's another take of the classic Coca-Cola, lots of wavy lines and reflections and semi transparent colour changes- not to get bored;-)             See you tomorrow (or better: today).         Simone

Lipstick- the Magic Ingredient

Lipstick
Oil Pastel on Pastel Paper
4x4in approx.

Of course, we cannot forget the lipstick in any girl's make up routine! (Funny enough though, that I had to borrow one from a friend to paint today's painting!) What's still missing on this page? Please let me know by tomorrow (I'm looking to fill the last spot).
A big smooch to all of you for your encouragement! Thank you!
Bis morgen!                                                                                                        Simone

What should fill the empty space?

Danke!
Bis morgen!                                                                                                           Simone

Silky Power

Silky Power Finish
Oil Pastel on Paper, 4 1/2 x 5 1/2in approx.

Today's painting is to follow the theme of make-up sketches.
I love the feel of the oil pastels, so buttery soft.
As you can see I haven't cut the paper, thinking it might make a good bigger art piece for
a bathroom.
