Fill A Backpack With Simone

simone ritter art 2019 yellow sweet pepper 6x6in oil on board stilllife
Yellow Sweet Pepper, 6x6in, oil on board, $100, available

 Happy winter 2019 everyone!

I hope you all got a good start into this year and are safe and warm during these frigid winter temps!

As for me and my family, we have enjoyed a few nice and quiet weeks over the holidays and now into January.
Yes, and painting I have been as well- almost daily actually!
I started a fun series of 6x6in oil paintings of food. As per comment on my social feed I called it: Let's Make An Omelet!

Today I want to feature the peppers from the series.
A yellow pepper, a red one, green one and two small red hotties.

I hope to have my website updated over the weekend, listing each painting individually (if you want more info on a specific painting).
Each of these 6x6's is for sale for $100 (incl. shipping to Canada and the Continental US) and in the spirit of St. Valentine's Day I will donate $15 from each sale to 'Backpack Blessings and Beyond' charity.

What is 'Backpack Blessings and Beyond'?

'Feed School Kids, No Matter The Cost' is their mission statement.
The program buys food for school children that live in homes that face food insecurity.
Before the kids leave school on Friday, the volunteers have food-filled backpacks lined up by the school entrance. The kids that are in the program know to look for them and grab a bag on their way out. The other kids don't know and so there is no stigmatism.
My kids' school is spear heading the program for St. George, Black's Harbour and Back Bay area schools. The program has been established about 5 years ago is providing weekly bags in 4 schools so far. Cost per backpack is $20 monthly or $240 per year.
This program is run by a handful of volunteers and caters to the very vulnerable of society and so I hope to give them a little plug and encouragement and a cheque on Valentine's Day.
If you want to help directly, here's their contact (Tax Receipts available):

The Painted Chair 'La Musica' for Fundraiser

2015-Art-Chair-la-musica-Simone-Ritter
Art Chair 'La Musica'
painted for Home Support Services Auction- Auction November 5, 2015
A couple of days ago, this chair was being picked up by Home Support Services of Charlotte County for an art fundraiser.
I painted it with my music-theme 'La Musica' featuring lifely music notes dancing, a treble clef in bright green, and piano keyboard; all on burgundy background with purple and dark green accents. I used outdoor artist grade mural acrylic paints and gave it 3 coats of varnish. I hope it will find a good home and bring some extra funds for 'Home Support Services'.
Home Support Services Inc. is a not-for-profit, governed by a volunteer board of directors.Their qualified Home Support Workers provide assistance in personal care, housekeeping duties, meal preparation and transportation. Their Mission is to provide assistance to people living in Charlotte County allowing them to remain living in their own homes.
Here is what their facebook event write-up says:
'We are participating in the Health and Wellness Fair being held November 05th in St. Andrews at the Community College beginning at 10:30-2:30. The Fair itself is free of charge, however there is also a luncheon being held from 12:30-1:30. The charge is $20.00. If you are interested in reserving a seat please call Kim Garron at 529 5044
AND We are also holding our very first Chair-ity Auction, beginning at 2:00PM
6 local artists will be presenting their art work on their chairs, to be auctioned off. Proceeds will go to Home Support Services.
We really hope you join us for the fun.'
I hope they can collect extra funds and awareness for their program, it was an honour being asked to participate. Best of luck!

1963 Shasta Compact

1963 Shasta Compact 'DealiaJo'
orig. watercolour, 5x7in approx.
more info: click here
Sold

Today's sweet camper is a 1963 Shasta Compact.
It is a very special camper, her owner writes: 'I love her. Her name is DealiaJo after my grandmother and mom who I lost both to cancer.'
She is a memorial to two incredible women that were much loved and inspiring, her owner is cancer survivor herself!
A young 16 year old woman in our town just got diagnosed with a very aggressive leukaemia and is fighting for her life, my mom is still on her long-term cancer hormone treatment, too, a friend of ours from Germany, Hameln just lost her battle and leaves behind a broken hearted husband- and I bet there is no one who has not been touched by cancer one way or another...
So, today's campie is our symbol for all the ones fighting this terrible disease and a cyber hug from me to you!

PEI visit and Fundraiser update

Wood Islands Lighthouse
watercolour, en plein air, 5x7in approx., NFS

Perfect weather to fly the kites

Well, it has taken us a while to do this, but we finally did visit PEI (Prince Edward Island)!
Our inn guests often do the round trip NB, PEI, NS and ask all sorts of questions, which are hard to answer as all summer we're working 7 days/week. So, the Ritters packed up as soon as 'Indulge' Festival was over and visited PEI for 4 days. Well, the sidewalks are pretty much rolled up now, but we saw a tour bus at Point Prim Lighthouse and decided to tug behind it (in hopes of seeing some sights open still). We got to go up two lighthouses and enjoyed the late fall scenery with almost zero tourists, wohoo! We enjoyed a scoop of 'Cow's Creamery' ice cream, yummy, went to 'Leonhard's Cafe' (absolute recommend when in Charlottetown) and spend a lot of fun time at the Hotel pool as per the kids' request.
I managed to paint one painting, too! It felt good to relax and reconnect as a family and now we're back and refreshed- restaurant open again, and starting with the carpenter tomorrow tackling the back of the house, haha!
Thanks for stopping by!                                                    Blessings, Simone

PS: Debbie's hearing aids are fully funded now! With your help, I was able to donate $130 to the cause! Thank you!!
From any one of my '30-paintings-in-30-days' paintings sold now, I will donate $10 to David Taylor who is battling cancer and unable to work at this present time.

Wood Islands Lighthouse
featuring a lovely museum inside

What a great day it was- the weather almost like in July! Great choir concert with the 'Voices of the Bay' (Sunday on Grand Manan and October 19, St. Stephen- if you can, treat yourself!) and morning fun at the anglican fall fair (lots of candy for the kids and fun games, thank you to all the volunteers and organizers!). Late afternoon painting at the wharf, today it was the yellow fishing boat. Had a nice visit from the daughter of the fisherman owning the 'All Done' (the turquoise boat I painted a couple of days ago). All in all a memorable autumn day! A blessed Sunday to you all and thank you for stopping by!           Simone

Simone

Midnight Painter

'All Done', oil, 6x6in, sold
(10$ from each 30-day-challenge sale will be donated to 'Let's hear it for Debby' Fundraiser for hearing aids)

It's late again, past midnight while I write this- maybe I am a midnight painter/blogger?
Today's painting is a studio piece after I loved yesterday's mood at the wharf and didn't get a chance to head down today, so a studio session it was... It's one of (if I'm not mistaken) only three actively used fishing boats left in St. Andrews: the 'All Done', who I have painted many, many times over the years. The golden years of the fisheries certainly are over and the licenses are passed down from generation to generation, as it has been with the All Done. She looks weathered, tired, telling many stories of her life at sea. I love painting the All Done and wish her many more years! Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings,                         Simone

Extra deep gallery wrap

Danke fuer's vorbeischau'n! Vergelt's Gott!                     Simone

Dancing Dinghy by the Wharf, oil, 6x6, sold
(with all paintings sold in this 30-day-challenge: 10$ donated to 'Let's hear it for Debby' Fundraiser: www.facebook.com/events/933751463305810/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming  )

Wooo, was it ever windy today down by the wharf, true autumn spirit! I was glad to have a hoody and a scarf with me! The little green dinghy was dancing in the choppy waves and the clouds were playing colour-change-games with the water as they were rushing by... Happy fall y'all!  Simone

this is more like the real colours...

Schoenen Herbstanfang euch allen! Simone

We Paint What We Cook + Purchase Infos

Rose Hips, 6x6, oil, plein air, 50$

A still life was in order today as I received a big bag of rose hips from a friend to make jam/jelly/syrup. They are so pretty that I just HAD to paint them;-). First time for painting something on a mirror, certainly a different feel... ps: I scraped yesterday's painting effort off the canvas (pink deck chairs) and the 'Rose Hips' are on!                Thanks for stopping by;-)                                                                                                  Simone

As I had some questions regarding sales, here some info:
- sales are on a first come, first served basis (if you like a painting, drop me a line via                               FB or email)
- all paintings are 50$ for 6x6in (this is way less than my regular prices, my way of                                    saying 'thanks' for all your support over the years). Shipping is extra
- of each painting sold, I'll donate 10$ toward
'Let's hear it for Debby' fundraiser for hearing aids
- I don't have anything organized for an exhibit, paintings may take a couple of weeks                              to dry and some might be sold before the challenge is over (for                                        Indulge Festival I might have a special display)

Simone
