Today's cute camper is this 1965 Gem called Pearl. How darling, does it not look like a little bird? According to its proud owner who submitted it with the words 'you need a little Gem 65', it is pretty rare and some digging and googling gave me just a handful of matching images of other Gems floating around there. By what I can see, this one had the front plate removed, which I think often was a contrasting colour, hence some little pin holes in the siding. I was attracted to the very simple set up of just two vintage camping chairs highlighting the simple pleasure of a getaway in nature; heading out for a night or two or three and leave any extravaganza at home. Isn't this what camping is about- back to nature, quieting down, take time to smell the roses and re-focusing on the healing power of stillness and friendship. 

We have a few wonderful campgrounds around our area. One is 'New River Beach', a Provincial sand beach with surprisingly few visitors, it's been a family favourite place for a day trip just to chill out... and what I hear locals say to take the time to visit Campobello Island Campground by the Theodore Roosevelt Provincial Park, where the president had his summer home (it is a Museum and open for visitors). I know a local lady in her 80's who grew up in the Hubbard Cottage, right next to the Roosevelt's and she always talked about the birthday parties that she attended as a kid, the games on the lawn and what a splendid childhood it was! A lot of tea party stories, too!

Hm, thinking like this makes me long for spring when I plan of taking my dear hubby out in my 'Little Wings' just to sit by the fire, feel the warmth of it and smelling the smoke, hearing the crackle and enjoying the company.  Now, just the thinking of it makes me smile- here we go, that's what little campies do! One way or another!

Today's featured camper is this 1967 Silverstreak called 'Stella'. Glamped up with vintage collectible coolers and earthy tones, the owner tied in beautifully with her trademark-golden-stripe. Silverstreaks are pretty high-end trailers and have a loyal following, arguably sporting better craftsmanship than the ever popular Airstream. I don't really know as I have not seen them side by side, actually never seen a Silverstreak in person yet! Hopefully some day! I started painting this painting early this morning at 3:30am after a bout of insomnia and stuffy nose- I thought it's better to get up and do something productive than flipping in bed not being able to sleep and driving Markus crazy, too. I just finished the painting now; it felt good to have the bulk of the painting already done!

Was crossing to the US to drop off some shipments at the post office- there are some paintings and calendars underway to their new collectors!

Today's featured camper is this beautiful 1968 Serro Scotty named Wildflower.

Today we also celebrate 'Epiphany', the three wise men visiting the child Jesus with symbol-loaden gifts of Gold, Myrrh, and Frankincense which also marks the last day of the 'twelve days of Christmas'.  Tomorrow our tree will be undecorated and taken down... always comes too soon...

I thought it being a great day for painting yet another Christmas Campie... and I have spent hours painting this sweet Scotty here, somehow I lost myself indulging in the many tiny shapes, shadows and interplay of light and dark... well, my back still being out I switched from painting in sitting and standing positions- quite a crazy sight for my family seeing me pacing back-and-forth with my painting and brush in hand.

Markus took two of our kids to have the passports renewed while Maximilian didn't feel well and spent the day with me, chilling.

The 'gang' just arrived home, so I better get going here, dinner time is coming up and after that I will be rushing out for music-group practice. I never thought I'd pick up my guitar again and be part of our small but dedicated music group!

For anyone that read my 'Orthodox Christmas' post from yesterday- was talking to my friend Natasha this morning as she was out grocery-shopping up a storm for a traditional Ukrainian feast with our Georgian friend Elena... comes to mind that picture of a woman sitting on a huge table, laden with a myriad of delicious food platters- waiting for the gathering to begin- I know these ladies will be ready!!!! Let the feast begin (unfortunately I cannot make it due to my music practice...).

Today's Camper Model I chose for my Orthodox Christian friends that will be celebrating their Christmas tomorrow, January 6th. 'Merry Christmas' to you! My ancestors were German 'imports' to Ukraine that came under Catherine the Great to work the farms and had to flee under Stalin's Great Purge. I grew up eating borscht soup and vareniki (stuffed pasta-type-dumplings with quark/cottage cheese and other fillings- I just learn it is a traditional Christmas Eve dish as well, so here we go- how fitting!). My friend Natasha has been cooking Ukrainian delights and bringing back some nice childhood memories for me- thank you, Natasha!!

Anyhow, thank you for sharing 'Clark' Camper in his Christmas fineries with me and us, it was a delight to paint- even though it might not qualify as a traditional Eastern Decor, ha ha! And Happy Christmas Eve to all my Orthodox Christian friends near and far!

Today's camper is this 1954 Mobil Scout called 'Boss Lady'. It's owner has been very patient as she submitted it last September and I just didn't get around to painting her then.

She is quite the camper all glamped up. I couldn't put in all the details on the small size of just 5x7in.

The sun and reflections and shadows forced me to look and 'paint what I see' not 'what I think there is'.

A very good exercise and fun, love this little canned ham, tin can glamper.

Kit Companion 'Miss Priss': here we have another sassy camper today. Did we have 'Boss Lady' yesterday, here we have 'Miss Priss'! The Woman power campers are marching on.

It takes me quite a while to paint those little artworks, actually when I started over a year ago, I thought it would be little 'quick sketches' of about 30 minutes for the small size of 5x7in which seemed to me just fair... well, let me tell you I'm at about 3-4 hours for each one by now! By the time they are painted, archived, photographed, blogged, posted on social and so on, half a day is gone like a flash! Artists really love what they are doing, I can tell you this much- and for me painting every day for January is a treat to cut my cold winter shorter (especially seeing your campers in hot summer weather while we here in New Brunswick are freezing at -12Celcius).

Today's Camper is this 19 ft Biggar Fibreglass camper made in Canada.

I had fun pushing the brights, it's January here, snow on the ground and I dream of summer- thanks little Biggar Fiberglass Campie!!
