Today is the day to look back at the January Challenge, so I made this collage. I hope you like it.
Thank you again to all the beautiful vintage camper submissions, and all your encouraging comments- this made this journey a blast!

Today is the last 'official' day for this January painting challenge.
I thought I'd like to end it with a painting of my own little campie... so here it is- before it was dis-assembled for re-build: Little Max, a 1965 Glenette.
A friend gave it to me as a gift- what a wonderful gift! He bought it in the 80's and used it for years for hunting. I have camped in it before: during my introduction to moose hunting in 2001- we never got a moose, but I fell in love with the little toaster camper! The best gift it was for me and what a surprise!!!

Every vintage Camper has its own story, every owner has a story about how they got it, and I have heard many stories this past month, it was a delightful, refreshing endeavour; I met so many new people, all passionate about their hobby and so generous in sharing their camper treasures and stories with me- and you! 
Thank you all for making this January the most fun January I've ever had- thank you!

For February I have to catch up with laundry and chores that have been patiently waiting, but already have some ideas to welcome spring in upcoming paintings as well as some paint-along tutorials for anyone interested in learning more about my method of painting.
What you'll need:
-artist grade watercolour paper: 100% cotton
-artist grade paints in the following primary colours (I use Da Vinci): 
    -Hansa Yellow Light
    -Phthalo Blue
    -Red Rose Deep
-chinese watercolour brush
-watercolour palette with multiple wells 
-container to hold water (Yoghurt tubs work well, the container will be stained)
-toilet paper roll to dab off excess water

I'm coming to an end with Leslie Saeta's January painting challenge. It has been a lot of fun and I learned a lot- thank you for walking along with me!
The weather was so beautiful here in St. Andrews today, I just couldn't stay indoors. There is a big snow hill down by the wharf where the town ploughs dump loads of snow into a high hill- my kids look forward to this every year and today we trotted down to have some winter fun with toboggans and me with my oil paint set.
For the camper sketch I started dabbling away at a few days ago, not a finished piece, but maybe an idea for a later painting...

Ich komme zum Ende mit Leslie Saeta's Januar 30 Bilder in 30 Tagen- Projekt. Es hat viel Spass gemacht und ich lernte viel- vielen Dank dass ihr mit mir gegangen seid.
Das Wetter war heute so wunderschoen in St. kAndrews, dass ich einfach raus musste! Da ist ein grosser Schneehaufen unten an der Anlagestelle wo die Schneeraeumfahrzeuge den gesammelten Schnee auf einen grossen Haufen aufschuetten. Meine Kinder freuen sich jedes Jahr darauf und so gingen wir heute runter zur Anlegestelle: die Kiddos mit ihren Schlitten und ich mit meiner Malausruestung.
Das Campingbild habe ich schon vor ein paar Tagen angefangen, nicht ein fertiges Gemaelde, mehr ein Sketch, vielleicht wird es mal eine Vorlage fuer ein spaeters Bild...

A Special Nomination

Today's featured Camper is a very special nomination for a special lady. One of her camper friends, Stacey, wrote to me the words: "...she's a great girl with a heart of gold that had had a really tough year. If you could see it in your heart to paint 'Johnny' she would be so happy ".

Attached with the message was a very much cropped photo. So, I entered on a research-journey and came up with this painting. There should be lanterns somewhere, but I couldn't find out where they should be located, so, no lanterns on this shot...

As a special hug and thanks for their encouragement this January to all the 'Girl Camp Canada' ladies, this painting will be shipped out as a gift to 'Johnny's' proud owner. I hope she'll like it.

Two more days in this January Journey, then I need to take a short break to catch up with my laundry pile and other to-do's. Then you'll see for February some spring themed paintings and watercolour instruction paint-alongs

and hopefully for March a fun theme again (will be announced later;-)

Last fibreglass this month: 1974 canadian-made Boler. They are a compact choice that are very well made, they hold their value for years to come. 
Tomorrow I have a special camper lined up- I'm really looking forward to painting it;-)

Below some photos of today's snow blizzard, our kitchen water pipes froze up, so that kept Markus busy thawing them out.

Der letzte Fieberglaswohnwagen fuer diesen Monat: ein 1974 kanadischer Boler. Sie sind kompakt und sehr langlebig und halten ihren Verkaufspreis über viele Jahre hinweg. Die Firma gibt es heute nicht mehr, sie verkaufen sich zwischen $4000 und $7000. 
Morgen habe ich einen ganz besonderen Camper- ich freu mich schon, ihn zu malen;-)

Dies sind zwei Fotos vom heutigen Schneesturm, unsere Restaurantkueche hatte gefrorene Wasserleitungen, so war Markus heute beschäftigt  mit Auftauen.

I love the red checkered tablecloth so typical and whimsical and the folding chair.

Wohoo, here we go: I've been sooo itching to paint a Euro-Camper again- and today's the day;-)

May I introduce: a G-E-R-M-A-N 1972 Tabbert Camper!! (Can you see I'm yearning for a good visit to my dear ole German home country). I've been basically harassing the poor owner for info on it and bless her heart, she went and took pics of all the plaques and decals on it! It was imported by a serviceman who was stationed in Germany.

Sorry for the late post- went out tonight with hubby and good friends before finishing this painting;-)

Juhuu, hier nun endlich: ich wollte schon seit längerem wieder einen europäischen Wohnwagen malen und heute ist nun der Tag gekommen. Darf ich vorstellen: ein DEUTSCHER 1972 Tabbert aus Bad Kissingen! (Kann man sehen, dass ich überreif bin fuer einen Besuch in meinem Heimatland?).

Ich habe die jetzige kanadische Besitzerin dieses Tabberts angeschrieben fuer mehr Info und ganz lieb ist sie sogar gegangen und hat sämtliche Plaketten und Aufkleber fotografiert! Der Wohnwagen wurde importiert von einem stationierten Soldaten.

Sorry fuer den spaeten Blogeintrag heute- ich war aus mit meinem Schatzi und guten Freunden, drum heute etwas später dran mit bloggen;-). Einen schönen 'Tag des Herrn' euch allen, vergesst nicht, euch eine 'Verschnaufpause' zu gönnen bevor die neue Woche anfängt! So, here it is! It's owner has been one of the very first to send a photo and had to wait a looooong time...
I'm inching my way through your generous submission photos- slowly but surely. I might not be able to paint every photo, but will try to do most... only 9 days left...

Unsere Wohnwagen Kollektion brauch noch einen Teardrop Camper... und hier ist er nun!
Seine Besitzerin war eine der ersten die ein Foto geschickt hat und musst drum geduldig warten.
Ich arbeite mich langsam aber sicher durch die eingeschickten Fotos. Wahrscheinlich kann ich nicht jedes einzelne malen, aber ich versuche die meisten zu malen... nur noch 9 Tage im Januar....

Der Kleine Guppy ('kleiner Fisch') ist ein Serro Scotty und hat ein Sommer-Schwimm-Strand Motto 
(ist das nicht genau das, was wir jetzt brauchen?!)

A few days ago my friend submitted this trailer owned by her son, with the words 'if you get desperate before the end of the month!'. Well, I  haven't gotten desperate and it is not really a vintage yet, but thought I want to honour such a sweet gesture! My friend is a lamp-bead-artist and owns 'Fireball Beads Gallery' on Deer Island, NB, representing women artists from Canada only. If you are in St. Andrews or southern New Brunswick and have a bit of time, stop by Deer Island with its rustic working fishing island charm. I go paint there regularly and have some paintings on display at 'Fireball Beads Gallery'.

Vor ein paar Tagen hat meine Freundin diesen Wohnwagen gemailt, der ihrem Sohn gehört. Die Begleitworte waren etwa so: Falls du noch verzweifelt was brauchst vor Ende des Monats.' Naja, ich bin nicht am verzweifeln und auch ist der Camper noch nicht wirklich ein antik, aber ich wollte solch eine nette Geste ehren. Meine Freundin ist eine Künstlerin die Glassschmuck herstellt und die 'Fireball Bead Gallery' auf Deer Island besitzt. Falls ihr in St. Andrews oder in der Nähe seid, vorbeischauen lohnt sich, Fireball Bead Studio stellt nur Kunst von Frauen aus Kanada aus- mich inklusive.

OK, here we go again: today we make a trip to visit this I think Belgium Camper.
I couldn't find a lot online for info, but its owner is a true enthusiast and I am sure it has a great home, it certainly is a treasure!
European Campers seem to have mostly no siding but panelling instead. I don't know if they are more sturdy or what the reasons are...maybe you can fill me in? I'd love to learn!
I certainly have seen and learned a lot in the short time painting and 'hanging out' with the gals in the camper Facebook page and cruising online.

OK, hier geht's wieder weiter: heute stelle ich diesen Belgischen Camper vor, 1964 La Tortue Corsica M2. Ich konnte nicht viel online herausfinden, aber seine Besitzerin ist ein echter Camperfan, ich weiss dieser hier hat ein gutes zuhause gefunden.
Europaeische Wohnwagen scheinen weniger Alupanelen als Aussenverkleidung zu haben sondern glatte Panelen. Ich weiss nicht, ob die widerstandsfähiger sind...
Ich habe schon eine ganze Menge gelernt in der kurzen Zeit mit den Ladies in der FB Gruppe und auf verschiedenen online Foren.

This is my second try, quite tricky somehow with the shadows and colour changes,
but surely makes me dreamy to spend the summer camping by the beach!


Hier wieder ein kanadischer Boler- 1973 Beach Jewel heisst er.
Dies ist mein zweiter Versuch, irgendwie kaempfte ich mit den Schatten,
aber sicherlich ein schoener Traum, den Sommer am Strand zu campen!

Here we have it now: even a small vintage camper is just the right size to bring along a doggie companion (and his name is Pablo, how great is that)!
Today another of the cute fibreglass trailers, a Boler with hand applied aqua border- the proud owner is a jewellery artist, too! Since getting to know vintage camper owners, I feel many of them are very creative people, I've seen jewellery, painting and different kinds of fabric art- this is so inspiring for me- thank you all for sharing your talents!

Hier sehen wir's ganz deutlich: sogar in einem kleinen Camper ist genug Platz um einen suessen Hund als Begleiter mitzubringen (und dieser hier heisst sogar Pablo)!
Heute nochmals ein Fieberglaswohnwagen, ein canadischer Boler mit handgemalter aqua Borduere- die stolze Besitzerin ist Schmuck designerin und arbeitet in Silber. Seit ich einige Camper Besitzer kennengelernt habe, faellt mir auf dass es doch sehr kreatives Volk ist, von Schmuck  ueber Malen und kunsvolles Naehen ist alles dabeit- das ist sehr inspirierend fuer mich- danke euch allen!

Here we walk on with the mini-series of fibreglass trailers. Today I'd like to introduce a 1977 Trillium lovingly called 'Bernice'.
It seems many fibreglass trailers are white or off-white in colour, with splashes of colours to accent.

Hier fahren wir fort mit einer kleinen Miniserie von Fieberglas Wohnwagen. Heutiges Modell ist ein 1977 Trillium mit dem Spitznamen 'Bernice'.
Es scheint, viele Fieberglas Camper sind weiss oder alt weiss mit wenigen Akzentfarben hier und da.

Today's feature is another Boler.  After a mini-series of the very popular Shastas the last few days, I am thinking of showcasing some fiberglass  trailers. They are a bit tricky to paint due to their rounded shape with no edges (aka: perspective). 
And this is great as this month is dedicated to learning and exploring new skill and that will definitely be a great practise! 
I have to say for the fact that I have only painted our own little trailer once here (with oil paints), I'm surprised how smooth (and how much fun) this new theme is for me- thank you all, for sharing your beautiful trailers with me!

Mein heutiger 'Vorfuehr(wohn)wagen' ist ein Boler. Nach der mini Serie der sehr beliebten Shastas der letzten Tage, denke ich ein paar Fieberglaswohnwagen vorzustellen. Diese sind etwas schwieriger zu malen, da sie keine Ecken und Kanten haben (Perspektive!).
Aber das ist ja gut so, da ich diesen Monat gewidmet habe kuenstlerisch zu Wachsen und mich Herauszufordern.
Ich muss gestehen, dass ich nur einen Wohnwagen vor diesem Monat gemalt habe: unseren eigenen (in Oel), und ich bin ueberrascht wie problemlos (und wie viel Spass) diese neue Herausforderung eigentlich ist. Ganz grossen Dank allen die ihre schoenen alten Camper mir zur Verfuegung stellen!

Answers ranged from 'freedom' and 'giving peace to my soul' to 'contentment', 'hope' and 'fun, to 'wine, women and song'.

JUST finished... was a looong way coming, but here she is: beautiful SuzyQ, a 1965 Shasta Airflyte.
Restoring a treasure such as a vintage camper is a work of love, and often our little campers become something like a 'therapy camper' that give us great joy. SuzyQ certainly is a stunner and what an honour to paint her!

GERADE fertig... dauerte laaange, aber hier ist sie: Suesse SuzyQ, ein 1965 Shasta Airflyte.
Das Restaurieren eines alten Wohnwagens ist sicherlich ein Liebesdienst und oft werden diese Projekte so etwas wie eine Therapie die uns viel Freude bereitet. SuzyQ ist eine Augenweide und eine grosse Ehre sie zu malen!

Black is an unusual colour for a vintage trailer and here it is combined with fun star decals in red.I like how the warm light bounces on the upper aluminium part and of course the 'Fancy Pants' red stripe;-)

Hier haben wir 'Fancy Pants', einen 1966 Shasta.
Schwarz ist eine ungewoehnliche Farbe fuer einen Camper und hier wurde es kombiniert mit freundlichen Sternmotiven in rot. Ich mag die warmen Lichtreflexe auf dem oberen Alu und den 'Fancy Pants' roten Streifen.

How great to send Christmas wishes via a beautifully decorated vintage 1969 Golden Falcon camper!

My ancestors were living in Ukraine until they had to flee under Stalin during the great Purge.

So, today I am sending Merry Christmas wishes to all my Orthodox Christian friends!

I so enjoyed this camper set-up and the white snow scene, it made me smile all the way through painting! I hope it will bring you joy also!

Aren't they just so adorable, those small vintage fibreglass campers?
This one, 'Baby' is a 1977 Bigger fiberglass 19 foot, I love the flower power lounger, too cool! Makes me yearn for summer weather, well only about 5 months to go, haha! But for true Canadians summer starts when the flurries stop, I'm just a euro-sissy still... so, painting summer is grrrreat!

Sind sie nicht einfach suess, diese kleinen Fiberglas Camper?
Dieser hier 'Baby' ist ein 1977 Bigger Fieberglas, 19 Fuss.
Ich liebe die Flower-Power Liege, zu cool! Da sehne ich mich grad nach Sommerwetter... naja, nur noch 5 Monate bis es warm ist hier, haha! Aber fuer echte Kanadier fängt der Sommer an, wenn's zum schneien aufhört, ich bin halt einfach noch ein Euro-Weichei... drum: den Sommer malen find ich grossartig!

Today's beauty, 'Sparkle', has just been awakened to new life via a loving restoration.
Sparkle is a 1964 Little Dipper by Northwest Coach. The strong light and shadow areas on the white siding invited me to paint interesting shadow colours,
so I had fun playing with this!

Meine heutige Schoenheit, 'Sparkle', wurde gerade erst wieder zu neuem Leben erweckt durch eine liebevolle Restaurantion. Sparkle ist ein 1964 Little Dipper by Northwest Coach.
Durch starken Licht-und Schattenkontrast auf weisser Aluhaut, waren interessante Schattenfarben gefragt, so hatte ich viel Spass mit 'Schattenspielen'.
